On January 23rd, the House Transportation Committee vote was 18 Yeas, 3 Nays, and 1 no vote.
About HB 287:
For the past two years volunteers across the state of Virginia, have strived to educate Virginians about responsible firearm ownership in order to help make our communities safer. We spoke with over 6,000 individuals in large urban cities to small communities across Virginia. We discussed safe firearms handling and storage, distributed trigger locks, and offered the special interest license plate program, “Stop Gun Violence.” We have meet and far succeeded the Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV) requirements for approval. The DMV requirement is 450 completed special interest license plate applications. At present we have collected 510 completed applications. This is a constituent based request.
We ask the LWV-VA to help see that HB287 is passed by encouraging our state Delegates and Senators to stand with their constituents and the LWV- VA across Virginia and vote in favor of HB 287, the “Stop Gun Violence” license plate bill.
[update: 2/5/18 HB287 passed the House. It has been referred to the Senate Committee on Transportation but it is not on any docket as of 2/9/18]
“The Stop Violence” plate design has made it to the House Floor for a vote.
The Gun Safety task force is asking us to encourage Local League and member calls/emails to get this passed.
