LWVUS and LWV-VA track legislation that holds a particular interest to all Virginians and often call on Leaguers to submitt comments to legislators to advance its goal of presenting unbiased nonpartisan information about elections, the voting process, and issues. Most of the legislation has a deadline for comment, but some continues on the table for longer periods of time. League members are encouraged to relay their thoughts on the legislation listed below any time they feel moved to do so.

Urge Congress to Restore the Voting Rights Act

Representatives James Sensenbrenner (R-WI), John Conyers (D-MI), Bobby Scott (D-VA), John Lewis (D-GA), and Senate Judiciary Chairman Patrick Leahy (D-VT) introduced common sense legislation that would repair and restore the Voting Rights Act. This bipartisan effort to fix the damage done by the U.S. Supreme Court's decision in Shelby v. Holder is necessary to restore and protect the rights of voters across the country. Read More.
