Action Alerts relating to Election Bills
Tuesday Morning 2/20/18 – House P&E Subcommittee #1
|Support:||SB589 (Ebbin) – Election Day Page program for high school students
Strong Senate support; low advocacy priority
|Support:|| SB825 (Edwards) – State Board of Election increase in membership
Strong Senate and Registrars support; low advocacy priority.
|Support:||SB983 (Obenshain) – Eliminate split districts for Congressional and State legislative districts
No opposition in Senate; low advocacy priority
|Oppose:||SB331 (Peake) – Verification of Social security numbers; provisional registration status
Would require expensive modifications to the statewide voter registration system (VERIS) and require Registrars to duplicate matching efforts of the Department of Elections.
|Oppose:|| SB521 (Obenshain) – reports of registered voters and persons voting
Would require Registrars to compare voter lists with an estimated population count, and compare and investigate, if needed, actual voters with registered voters. Financial burden to localities due to increased workload.
|Oppose:||SB523 (Obenshain) – Add Voter’s photo to electronic poll books
Current EPBs do not have the capacity to add photos, which would be very expensive for localities to put into effect.
|Oppose:||SB834 (Chafin) – Voter registration list maintenance to identify voters registered in other state
Financial burden to the Department of Elections to pass on copies of registration forms to local Registrars. (Some support from Registrars)
